My Students

My students come from a variety of backgrounds with different experiences that influence who they are becoming. Each student brings unique qualities to our classroom that enriches our learning community and brings our classroom to life.

One thing all my students share, is a love for learning.

My students come each day interested and full of questions about the world. They are curious and determined to solve problems, connect their learning to the world, and empower and support each other. My job is to expand their knowledge and dig deeper with the content to help strengthen their future opportunities.

My Project

Board games can be a great way to incorporate critical thinking skills and strengthen students' reasoning and logic skills while also giving students authentic reasons to communicate and to interact.

Children learn best through play and peer interaction.

Board games would help promote logical thinking, connect consequences to choices or actions, learning how to take turns, and focus on peers with thoughtful interactions. Blokus is an abstract strategy game that requires children to analyze their own move while also looking at how to most impact someone else's ability to play the game. The Rush Hour game requires children to think logically about the movement of cars and how to exit the gridlock of vehicles. Each of the games has a variety of levels to challenge all children at their current thinking level while still pushing them to learn new strategies the more often they play.

Games are easily integrated into the classroom during units of study. These board games will help students develop thinking strategies such as adapt, rethink, plan ahead, react and master topics. The use of board games will provide an authentic hands-on learning experience for my students.
