I am lucky to be able to teach my twenty-seven unique and energetic Kindergarteners. They are excited about learning and even more so when reading and writing is integrated with technology. My students' eagerness to learn inspires me. I strive daily to create fun learning experiences utilizing technology as best I can with the limited resources at our school site, in order to help prepare students for life in our digital world.
Our school is a Title I school, and most of my classroom is comprised of ELL (English Language Learners) who come from low socioeconomic backgrounds where very few have access to technology once the school day has ended.
While my students struggle to meet Common Core Standards, mainly due their limited English skills, they are a determined group of 5 and 6 year olds who continue to try their best to learn.
I want to be able to give all my students the opportunity to shine. I know they are more engaged in the classroom when technology is joined with learning, and therefore I am doing what I can to bring technology to them.
My Project
My students are just at the beginning of their digital literacy. The 6 Chromebooks will help them explore and begin to use digital technology that will rocket them into the multimedia authors. Many of my students still need support in foundational skills and the Chromebooks will also be instrumental in helping them in this area.
My students love to tell stories and are enjoying learning to use their creative imaginations to illustrate and write their ideas onto paper.
One of our kindergarten writing standards requires students with to explore a variety of digital tools to produce and publish writing, including collaboration with peers with adult support and scaffolding.
Using Chromebooks with management licenses in the classroom will also allow students collaborate with peers and to use a variety of apps to help create stories and even picture books. Working collaboratively, taking turns, asking questions, and working together to write a story is also a standard for Kindergarten.
This project would provide a locking/charging cart along with the technology that will help us meet our kindergarten writing and technology standards, not to mention, bringing technology into the classroom makes learning a lot more exciting!
