Help me give my students a hands on science experience in a fully immersive forensic science laboratory. All students should be exposed to basic science equipment that enables them to learn the fundamental concepts of laboratory analysis.
In the words of Benjamin Franklin, "Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." Students learn best when provided the opportunity to dive deeper into their course content.
Inquisitive, critical thinkers, hands-on-learners, these are just a few of the words I can use to describe my students.
The students that I teach on a daily basis want to learn, but computers and text books can not provide the experience and practice necessary to master laboratory skills. Unfortunately, funding in our district does not stretch far enough to allow for the purchase of items that will greatly enhance my students learning experience such as laboratory equipment. My students want to interact with the content and experience first hand what it is like to be a scientist.
My Project
All aspects of Forensic Laboratory Analysis rely on the fundamental concepts of Biology, Chemistry, and Anatomy. Unfortunately in a system driven by standardized testing, high school students are not exposed to as many laboratory experiments in their core science classes as in years past. Through this project Forensic Science students will be provided the opportunity to complete numerous hands-on real world laboratory exercises that they would otherwise miss out on.
My students will not only become more engaged in the learning process, but they will be able to walk away from high school with valuable insight and career training that will carry them in to the field of Forensic Science.
