Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are excited and energetic about our school community and the community around them! Our community is in the the poorest congressional district in America. Our small community serves students from diverse backgrounds with diverse learning needs.
We are a Title I school with students that come from challenging backgrounds, but are inspired to learn new things that will help their community and their futures!
My students are excited by challenges that require problem solving. The use of hands-on and engaging resources in our classroom benefit all students, especially those with learning needs, become even stronger independent mathematical thinkers.
My Project
With around 100 students walking in and out of my classroom all day, supplies start to run low and older resources start to fall apart quickly into the school year. One of the fundamental supplies for my Algebra class are folders where students keep their work in a safe place. Additionally, we prefer to use pens so students are not tempted to erase their work, but instead embrace their mistakes and learn from them!
Algebra is already difficult enough, having the right supplies shouldn't be!
White boards are also fundamental because they provide a space for students to problem solve and brainstorm ideas. Having a class set of white boards, markers, and erasers will make a huge difference when my students are learning mathematical problem solving skills.
