Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Many of the students that attend this school come from a tough area with difficult lives at home. Some of these students also struggle on the academic front. For this reason, my art class is meant to be a safe haven for children where they are allowed to be right in whatever way they express their art.
These children's faces light up in their art classes when they get the opportunity to express themselves while working with new materials and trying different art activities.
Each child has the opportunity to explore multiple art forms and can usually find something that they feel personally connected to.
The arts can serve as a positive creative outlet to young minds and boost their emotional health, social relationships, and success in their academics.
My Project
By providing students with the materials, you are enabling them to learn new art techniques, explore with different materials, and find different ways of expression.
From building gingerbread houses out of milk cartons to pirate ships out of popsicle sticks, these students have done it all and are eager to do more!
In our art class, students are challenged with one material to base their work on, a topic, and are set to create. These children, if given the opportunity, would love to use materials to try to build bigger and better things.
Popsicle sticks and paint are a staple in most of our crafting projects and will be very helpful in assisting them to continue creating.
