Our school is an urban school with socio-economic and cultural diversity. Our students and teachers are a diverse group, each bringing unique strengths to our educational program. The mission of our school is to develop lifelong learners and globally-minded citizens by fostering the academic, creative, and social skills needed to achieve excellence in a multicultural environment.
We hope to eliminate loneliness, build friendships, ignite kindness, and empower students to help each other.
Students go outside for recess each day. It's sad to hear about those children who "don't have anyone to play with."
My Project
We want to add a bench to each of our playgrounds to help children find a friend to play with. Just like football players score in the end zone, we want students to score a friend in the "Friend Zone." As part of our school's mission, we want to develop social and emotional skills in our students.
Everyone wins in the "Friend Zone." Currently all students participate in the BullySafe program.
We have a Kindness Kit in our media center. Now we want to branch out onto the playground to help students continue to grow. We will add a bench to each playground that will be designated a place to find a friend. Lessons about friendship will be shared with all classes in the media center. Students will be encouraged to go to the bench when they need a play partner, and they will be encouraged to look for children sitting on the bench and invite them to play. Friends help us feel accepted, feel less lonely, and they help us develop and grow. (These benches will be used similar to a "Buddy Bench.")
