Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

We have the forgotten classroom library. Our books have disappeared before we get them OR shipped elsewhere. In this day of Balanced Literacy, We need library books! Science & math books, poetry, fiction and non-fiction.
We are a Special Day Class of 15 kids in 1st and 2nd grade in what was termed a Language Enriched class.
We are all about the oral and written word.
The students in my class are all kids with language delays. Many are also English Language learners. To catch up to their peers they need the best and they need exposure to as much out there as possible. We need the materials to learn more than our peers everyday! Right now we don't have that. We have left over old books from others and very few of that. Although play is important and technology is the way of the future we need the printed word for the students to understand what a book really is and that it is something to explore.
The students are smart. They have less and are still learning. Last year many did not talk at the start of the year. "Juan's" dad told me "I am having conversations with him. Finally! I have waited for this day since he was born." Just think where "Juan" will be if he gets the best materials possible.
My Project
“There are many little ways to enlarge your world. Love of books is the best of all.” - Jacqueline Kennedy
We are learning literacy through science, math, and fiction. We are learning about the world through biographies, social studies, and project based learning.
We are doing experiments with science. We are reading about insects and then looking at them. Flowers and plants by exploring through books and then growing them ourselves.
We are taking our new words and placing them on our word wall that we want to cover the entire room.
We are learning that counting helps us not only how to use money, but in figuring out the days of the week, how many spaces there are in a game, how many siblings I have, and comparing and contrasting.
We are realizing that our sneaky teacher can make learning fun through: games, questions, exploring, experimenting, and challenging us.
We are learning that we need to work harder to get others to hear our voices and that we count!
"So please, oh PLEASE, we beg, we pray, Go throw your TV set away, And in its place you can install, A lovely bookshelf on the wall.” — Roald Dahl, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Again we have been the forgotten classroom.
Donations to our project will give us the chance to compete with others in the new common core world. Common Core it is essential that we have the ability to communicate our ideas. Donating to this project gives us books to fill up that bookcase and to communicate.
