This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are new to high school. They are eager to learn, and nervous about the experience to come. They are excited to be in a new environment and don’t really know what to expect. My students come from a variety of backgrounds from middle class two-parent homes, and some are homeless. Either way, they all have the potential for greatness. This project will help me to keep a supply of basic materials the students will need to get their work done in the English classroom. The supplies will help them do individual assignments as well as group projects.
My Project
I will be teaching part-time and coaching/ leading the English department for the rest of the day. I will constantly be moving, and sharing space with other teachers, So my classroom will be mobile. I will be teaching freshman students who are new to the building and so it is important that I teach them how to be organized with the spacing materials that they have. In this way, I can be a living example.
What excites me the most about teaching English, is that you never know what’s going to happen, how students will respond to what we are reading, or writing or how we will learn from each other.
Students often run out of material to do their work, so having extra supplies, like a pen, paper, highlighters, and white-out, will ensure that I can keep material that they will need to be successful. Materials like markers, poster paper, post-its, and highlighters, will help students have material for group work and presentations when we do activities like jigsaws, where students help teach each other material.
