As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, I see that my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many obstacles they face, school should be a safe place where they are free to be creative and focus on learning.
These first graders are smart, enthusiastic and love to create with their hands.
These students deserve the very best that the education world has to offer. In our classroom, we care and encourage one another to be our best.
My Project
Life in first grade is wiggly! We need to move and move often. First graders can learn best when they have choices that allow us to listen and move at the same time. We were gifted five wobble stools for our classroom and would like to have a few more choices that will help students stay focused to learn and complete their work. We need three balance stability balls, four chair cushions, chair bands and carpet spot markers.
The stability balls and seat cushions allow students to use their muscles to keep themselves stabilized, moving slightly, and engaging in class at the same time.
The chair bands are placed at the bottom of a regular chair and allow students to bounce and tap their feet while sitting. The carpet spot markers will define areas on the carpet where students can work.
All students will benefit from these options and each student will experience and be allowed to choose which seat is right for them!
