Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a school for children with disabilities. I teach a class of 7 students who all have autism and other challenges such as communication, social, and fine motor. My students have sensory needs as well. Some use iPads for communication that have over 30 cells per page and others need some verbal prompting and cues to communicate. Some of my students who require a 2:1 ratio for teaching and others require a 1:1 ratio.
In my class, students are reading, writing, doing math, and using technology.
However, they have challenges as well. Handwriting social skills are a difficult area for them.
My Project
I teach students with autism in a special education school. These fine motor activities will enhance education and learning in my classroom by strengthening my students' hands so they can complete fine motor tasks in a fun and engaging way. My students have a lot of trouble with fine motor skills such as writing, typing, and picking up small items. These activities will be a wonderful way to prepare the students' fingers and hands before we practice any sort of activities such as writing our name and typing.
These activities are colorful and fun, and will not only enhance fine motor dexterity but will encourage creativeness and social interaction between my students.
I will be able to use them as social reinforcement by having my students ask each other for these different items as the items themselves will be rewarding to do!
