I teach children in a low-income and high poverty neighborhood in the inner city of Los Angeles. At this Title I school, 100% of my students receive free lunch.
Though their economic standing has them encountering many challenges, struggling to receive an exemplary education will not be one of them as far as I am concerned.
My hope is to provide my students with the highest expectations so that they can succeed in their lives, education, and careers. To help me do that, I need resources that these students may not have readily available.
Technology is a heavily relied-on tool in the classroom. My students use computers to research, type up their writing, practice specific skills, and basically watch the world open up in front of their eyes.
It's my goal to build a classroom where the student and device ratio is one to one.
Currently, I share a technology cart with another teacher, so the purpose is to give my students full-day access to computers. I recently got a project funded that brought our computer total to twenty-two. We need only two more to be completely 1:1. We are requesting two laptops to give our classroom complete access to technology.
As of right now, it's difficult for students to complete projects and fully access computers to meet their educational needs, so I am requesting two Chromebook laptop computers. These Chromebooks will open up my planning so I can engage in bigger projects for my students to take on. I will be able to take them to new places in the classroom.
