My Students

The students I serve are 3rd-5th grade academically/intellectually gifted students. I have yet to find a topic that they do not want to explore. From chess to jury trials, the American Revolution to algebra, and most definitely anything technology related.

These students love a good challenge!

My goal is to meet their academic and social needs through rigorous thematic studies and collaborative group work. Every unit we study includes both math and literacy with a focus on 21st century digital literacy.

My Project

During this past school year, I was fortunate to receive funding through DonorsChoose to participate in a Design Thinking cohort known as EdEx. It was during one of our professional development sessions that I was introduced to The Extraordinaires Design Thinking Game. Each participant received one of the kits and I immediately introduced it to my 5th grade students.

My students used the Launch cycle to employ design thinking strategies while "playing" The Extraordinaires.

The entire time, they were completely engaged in observing, empathizing, questioning, designing, evaluating, and redesigning to meet the anticipated needs of the selected Extraordinaire. In fact, they took the game one step further and began to design their own Extraordinaire personas!

I am requesting multiple sets of the Pro version to increase the versatility of the card decks as I split students into partners and small groups.
