My students are the most kind and lovable bunch! They have so much passion and thirst for knowledge. Most of my kids can't speak English and only understand the bare minimum, but that doesn't stop them. They don't let the barrier of language stop them from learning.
I've always taught my students that reading can take them anywhere!
I tell my students if they love to travel then pick up a book read, close your eyes, and imagine! They can go wherever they want, if they just need to get away for a bit, just simply pick up a book and go!
Reading helps students close the learning gap. It encourages creativity, increases fluency and comprehension, and allows them to build their confidence.
I want to give my students who have grown to love reading a variety of books. As my students are getting older their interest levels are increasing and they would really like to see a vast array of books to choose from.
Once a week I pick a VIP student, student of the week.
I want to be able to take their picture and showcase their outstanding effort outside our classroom for all to see. I want to also be able to create a VIP station with markers, pens, and other cool things that they can use throughout the week.
Through other projects, I have been fortunate to create a tablet station. Here they are able to play education games, as well as, listen to educational kid-friendly podcasts. We've run into scenarios where they don't have headphones or their headphones don't work. I want them to have the ability to not worry about the headphones and be able to enjoy their station.
