Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom demographic is diverse. My students are in the most restrictive setting because of their severe language, emotional, and cognitive delays. They are often unable to regulate their feelings, and many exhibit severe behavior issues. One might wonder how, with all these challenges, they get academic work done. I praise them often and find something that they do well in order to keep them motivated. Most of my students are boys, and they learn best through tactile and kinesthetic activities. Putting all these challenges aside, this is a group of students who really come in every day eager to learn. This is the reason why I feel they should be exposed to as much as I can possibly give.
My Project
My students would love to have copy paper, a laminating machine, markers and a pencil sharpener. These supplies will allow my students to engage in daily activities in all subject areas. Copy paper is needed for students to be able to have additional practice aides besides the given textbooks. A pencil sharpener would be greatly appreciated. Students need to use pencils as well as colored pencils for daily learning activities. Without the use of one, it makes sharpening very time consuming with a mechanical sharpener. My current students will have access to all these supplies and my future students as well. The materials that I am requesting will enrich my classroom environment and encourage learning.
