Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a first year teacher in a Title I public elementary school in the Bay Area. My school serves a high needs population - 50% of students come from low-income families, about 40% of students are English learners, and a high percentage of students are struggling academically. My school is particularly focused on bridging the achievement gap by integrating culturally responsive teaching, balanced literacy, and programs specifically designed to reach English language learners and students who need differentiated academic support.
I am committed to creating a classroom environment in which all of my students feel included, valued, empowered, and excited to learn.
Learning is a collaborative experience wherein each student will be recognized for their strengths and supported when they feel challenged. The projects on my page give students the supplies they need to work in the learning space they deserve.
My Project
As a first year teacher, I am responsible for providing many of the essential school supplies for my students to use throughout the year. Coming from a district that is struggling financially, I will be provided with the basic supplies like pencils, paper, and notebooks for my class; however, I need to personally supply other essentials that allow students to fully engage and participate in their schooling experience.
My students need appropriate tools and supplies in order to find success in the classroom.
The items on my list have been chosen to help my students and me complete necessary assignments, keep our classroom organized, and enhance learning opportunities.
We will use items like the pencil sharpener, stapler, hole punch, and erasers for everyday tasks and organization. Items such as magnetic tape, an easel, clipboards, and clothespins will allow me to display student work and create anchor charts to improve engagement and learning. Other supplies such as the disinfecting wipes, storage, and labels will help keep our classroom clean and tidy. Please consider helping stock our classroom with the necessities we will need to have a great year!
