My students need drawing paper and markers to visualize their testing goals, then medals and books to celebrate their success.

Working with at-risk students from a low income/high poverty community comes with challenges, but exciting my students about learning and providing them with the best education possible is my calling. My students make me believe that anything is possible, and they inspire me to work harder every day.
We are a joyful, inclusive family of learners who embrace education as a lifelong journey.
As self-determined and productive people, we nurture our whole selves physically, mentally, emotionally, and artistically. We work in solidarity and love with our greater Southwest Detroit community. By critically and creatively participating in our world, we affect positive change and empower ourselves and each other to become the people we want to be. We are limitless!
My students surprise me every day with their resilience, inquisitive minds, and their dedication to learning. Together we empower, educate, and embrace each other every day.
The end of the year is coming, and we need to amp up celebrating success. The weather is warming up and we are all itching for summer. However, there is still so much more learning to do.
We need drawing paper and markers to make posters to pump us up for the end of the year; medals and books will be our celebration of an amazing year together.
The posters will remind us to to stay focused on our goals- getting reading and math scores to grade level. The medals will be the way we show the world what we have done, because showing off is fine when you met your goal. However, the books will remind the students of a year well spent. They went from having the book read to them, to reading the book to others.
More Spaghetti, I Say is a book I use throughout the year, a common thread teaching characters, nouns, adjectives, opinions, sequencing, and so much more. Last year I bought every student a copy of More Spaghetti, I Say to celebrate the end of first grade, and I want to do that again.
