I teach art to students in rural Virginia. The students come with various backgrounds and experiences. All the students love participating in the art projects.
The students are excited, energetic, and eager to try and learn new things.
The students begin to take ownership of their many accomplishments throughout the school year.
The students love my class because I give them different and engaging new ways to learn. The fun part for me is to watch their excitement and smiles while they're learning.
My Project
I realized this year how meaningful and inspirational a sketchbook is for a student. I decided to look further into purchasing learning based art sketchbooks, and found the Nasco education 1st -5th grade sketchbooks.
I purchased the first set from each grade level to look through, they have my approval!
Inside each sketchbook are 25 pages of art activities based on both the elements of art and the principals of design. All of which are taught in the classroom. The students would have time during art class to work in their very own sketchbook specifically for their grade. I would use the sketchbooks all year, and at the end of the school year the student would take their book home.
I learned when I gave one student a sketchbook, that student became more engaged and involved in the subject matter at hand. It was fun to see the students involvement and creativity come alive. I plan on inspiring and instructing more budding artists!
