Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is located in a low socioeconomic neighborhood where 100% of the students receive free lunch. My class is very diverse; it consists of Latin and Asian English learners, including Chinese, Vietnamese, Cambodians, and Filipinos.
Even when faced with many challenges both at home and at school, my students are always enthusiastic and eager to learn.
There are many different living arrangements and family structures within my students' families. They are scholars who understand the importance of hard work and perseverance, and they always try their best to reach their goals. Their parents are eager and will do all they can to try to give their children the very best education possible at home, but they also rely on our school and our teachers to help fulfill their American Dream since they spend most of their time working to provide for the family.
My Project
"It is good to realize that we can teach our children to honor nature's gifts, the joys and beauties of the outdoors will be here forever" said Jimmy Carter. Going Green must start at preschool. I would like to introduce the concepts of the 3Rs (reduce, reuse, and recycle) through art.
This project will allow my students to become global citizens by understanding the importance of recycling and to encourage other students to do the same.
My students understand and learn the importance of recycling through the use of the Recycling kits. The kits will give them hands-on experiences to sort things that can be recycled or trashed. I can read the recycled books and have discussions and chart students responses to ensure understanding of the concepts. With 4-year-olds, it is vital that my lessons are hands-on which will promote better understanding of this important topic.
In order to ensure that my students are more aware and responsible about our environment, I must implement lessons that foster reducing, reusing, and recycling. I would like my students to learn and express what they learn about the 3 Rs through the use of art. They will create posters to post around our school to encourage other students to practice the 3 Rs.
