The Earth Needs the Sun but Does It Need the Moon?
Help me give my students the ability to see and model how the moon affects the earth by using the hands-on inquiry set after I demonstrate with the illuminated orbiter.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have amazing and talented scholars that come from a variety of backgrounds. My smart and hardworking scholars want to do well in school.
Though they may have difficulty bringing supplies for class, they love to learn just like other scholars their age.
They put forth their best effort despite being in a district where all scholars receive free breakfast and lunch. I believe they could be more engaged if they were able to do more hands on and visual learning. Although I use a variety of techniques in my class, more hands on activities will assist my scholars with learning the concepts presented in class.
My Project
Scholars have many different ways in which they learn best. Understanding the concept of how the moon affects the earth is difficult to grasp just by reading about it. These materials will assist my scholars by providing both a visual aspect with direct instruction by me and a physical, hands-on approach with the models for the scholars to manipulate.
As the moon rotates, they will be able to see how the moon revolves around the earth as the earth revolves around the sun.
Then the scholars will use their model to see the relationship between the sun, moon and the earth. These items will help them understand multiple concepts including the phases of the moon, why those phases happen, seasons on Earth, both spring tides and neap tides as well as learning the specific vocabulary that goes with the lessons.
