Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from low-income households where over 90% receive free and reduced priced lunches. These students qualify and receive special education services for a specific learning disability. Over 60% of my students are diagnosed with dyslexia which is a difficulty with accurate or fluent word recognition and by poor decoding abilities. Students with dyslexia need specialized instruction and materials to improve their reading skills.
Audio books are a proven evidence-based approach to help students with dyslexia to learn how to read.
My Project
Audio books are an essential learning tool for children with dyslexia. Each book will come with a picture book so that the student is able to follow along as the story is being read.

If my students do not attain these essential reading skills by third grade, it will become more and more difficult for them read grade level material as they move from grade to grade.
