Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work at a Title I school, and it’s almost impossible to receive funds to purchase soccer equipment for the team. More than eighty percent of these students receive free or reduced price lunch. My soccer team is composed of hardworking students who come from low income families; they come from a predominately Hispanic background. We are asking for support to help build our elective teams, such as the soccer program, back up so they have everything they need to continue to have a winning season!
My Project
My soccer team needs new equipment for the upcoming season. The soccer balls, shin guards and uniforms are necessary to teach these young girls the skills of soccer. We're having a tough time practicing and would like to purchase practice hoodies suitable for the cold.
My students live in communities that can easily pressure them to make choices that will affect their lives in a negative way.
Playing soccer is one of the ways many of these students stay out of trouble. In addition, the children's families struggle financially, and it would be a great relief for them to know that their daughters receive the necessary materials for an extracurricular activity. Our school and surrounding areas were also devastated by Hurricane Harvey which caused many losses in our athletic department. We are hoping for support to replenish the necessary items and to continue providing the opportunity for students to succeed.
The soccer balls are needed for practice each day. We also need to shin guards to prevent injuries. Additional team equipment such as the clipboards and backpacks will keep the team organized on game day. We also need a travel bench and a Lamzac to use for recovery during games. Our soccer field is not in the best shape, and we need 4 flags on each corner to be able to distinguish the lines.
