My Students
Our school library is the center of learning for our diverse population. Our students utilize the library often for a variety of reasons (research, borrow books, place to study and so many more) and we want to continue to serve them properly. My students like to dream, think, ask questions and find answers. My library allows them to do those things. My students view the library as a safe and fun place to enjoy learning and exploring. My teachers view the library as a useful tool for their classroom. My school has a few students who are refuges and are new to the country. Some of our students have also relocated from the storm damaged areas in Puerto Rico.
My Project
Many of my students do not have computers or technology at home. This makes it difficult for them to complete research and keep up with the rest of the class. I have a few classes that are working on making podcasts and other digital storytelling projects. Unfortunately the students who's stories we really want to hear (and they really want to share) do not have the technology to tell their stories digitally. My plan is to offer chromebooks and headphones to be loaned out through the library. This will allow all students to participate in complementing these assignments just like their peers. The use of technology is a huge component of the curriculum in our school and assists students with many components of their education. This project will support students on IEPs, 504 plans, and students in the general education classroom.
