Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are a rainbow of many colors. A good percentage of our students are African-American. We also have a growing population of Latino students and a small population of Asian students. Each group of students is fascinated with one another's cultural history and background. Despite having little knowledge of one another's culture, each group shares love and respect for one another. These students thrive on learning and would love to read more about diversity and multiculturalism.

Being a struggling reader has not deterred these rainbow students from learning to read.

Our bright-eyed and highly spirited students can be found daily in a book corner reading books about people and foreign places. These scholars are hooked on reading and have sound reasons to learn. Our students show progress in their studies when reading is correlated to learning more about world cultures.

Our students embrace learning with passion and pride. The Tiger students love to do and learn. These students' interest levels pique when reading a good book about the places they will travel. As a school, we have developed a curriculum centered on multicultural literature which has afforded our students to show gains in their studies.

My Project

If this project is funded for books, my rainbow students will show compassion and understanding of cultures. Students will have personal relationships with one another after reading books that expose them to multicultural study. As a school family, students will gain better insight into personal bias and work towards eradicating stereotypes. Each student, through reading new cultural books, will expand their knowledge and viewpoint towards one another.

Cultural books will assist my students in building a strong sense of community for all and recognizing the contributions of diverse members of different races of people.

Students, after reading their multi-cultural books, will become comfortable with interacting with one another, behaviors and ideas that are familiar to them, and the fear factor will decrease when faced with the unfamiliar. Students will respect the different viewpoints and cultures of their classmates and appreciate the differences. Students will recognize that people of all genders, ethnicities, and appearances can have a positive influence on the world and deserve to be respected and emulated.

Multicultural books will teach students to embrace their own culture and heritage. Additionally, students will respect and appreciate their own culture and heritage.
