My students need a new paper shredder to learn about recycling and functional job skills.

Can you think of the most valuable skill you learned while in school? The one skill that you still use to this day? Would you have been able to learn that skill if you had not had proper materials?
The school that I teach at is a special education school for students with multiple disabilities.
We service students ages 5 through 21. In the Worklab class, we focus on functional skills that these students will carry with them as they graduate and transition to a post high school job.
The Worklab classes complete real-life, office type jobs for area businesses and schools. We also do the shredding for our entire school. Being a special educational school, we have quite a bit of paperwork and shredding that is needed to be done throughout the school year! While shredding, students learn about the importance of recycling. All students participate in the recycling program that has been developed through our school. I have requested a new paper shredder so that we can continue our program. The current paper shredder that my students use is very old. It often overheats and needs to "rest" for a while before it can be used again. A new paper shredder would allow the students of Worklab to increase their shredding production and to be able to work continuously throughout class.
By donating to this project, you will be helping an entire school of special needs students to learn functional job skills that they will carry with them once they graduate.
Can you think of the one skill you learned throughout your education that is the most useful to you today? Despite their differences, the students of Worklab are ready and eager to learn, and to carry these skills on with them once they transition on to their next stage in life.
