Students at my school are just as varied as you might expect for a school of 800 students. However what I have noticed is that they are as a rule respectful, kind and considerate to each other and their teachers. They are inclusive so that no matter how unique and different someone is they always have a place at the table. Foreign exchange students are embraced and celebrated for their culture, musicians are celebrated for musica
l talents and athletes are cheered for their abilities.
Really everyone at our school readily interacts with each other and does so in a kind way. An example is how our students received a national award for our unified basketball program which is all about supporting each other. There is always some kind of fundraiser happening to help those less fortunate and it is always done with enthusiasm and commitment. Another example is this past fall when there was an international walk out day for climate change awareness. Our students worked with faculty to come up with an event that satisfied their need to peacefully protest at the same time it complied with the needs of the school to have students engaged in learning.
My Project
Being able to mount and frame student work in a professional manner will be highly motivating for students. It will also help to promote and advocate for arts education in my district and across the state of Maine. Exhibiting student work is an art form in itself and students need to develop their ability to create and select their work for presentation. Mounting and framing their work will help to contextual their pieces and give them the proper format.
Giving students' work a cutting edge appearance will help them to think about themselves as artists.
This tool will help them with their work that is displayed in community settings as well when they submit work for the Advanced Placement portfolio exam. Mats help keep student artwork safe by separating the glass from the art or whatever it is being framed. Having a mat in between your artwork and framing glass is important because any condensation that might develop on the inside of the glass can be transferred to your art causing water damage, mold or mildew. So as you can see having the ability to Mat student artwork will increase the value as well as preserve the quality of their work.
