This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Students at our school come from diverse backgrounds. We are a rural school with a large population of Second Language and Dual Immersion students (students who are learning Spanish).

As a teacher in a low-income/high-poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges in and out of the classroom.

Despite the many challenges, I like to provide rich learning experiences to all of my students. When students are engaged, there is no limit to how much they can learn.

My Project

I am seeking copies of The Crossover, to encourage reading skills, improve vocabularies, and strengthen figurative language usage. Most of my struggling readers need books to capture interest. This novel will help students gain interest by using elements such as rhythm and rhyme, references to basketball, competition, girls, school, parents, and all things that must be conquered on and off the court.

Finding a book that captures students interests is tricky.

Finding books that meet their scholastic and struggling reading needs is even more difficult. The author, Kwame Alexander, understands teens. in particular, he remembers what it was like to be 12 - 15.
