My Students

I am lucky enough to teach all 6th grade students at my elementary school. I am the English/Language Arts teacher for this grade level.

My students love the opportunity to investigate a wide range of topics and genres in the 6th grade.

I attempt to utilize a wide range of materials to expose my students to all literature, both fiction and non fiction.

I have found that many of my students express a "hatred" of reading. My goal with this project is to hook my students with fictional novels that are proven favorites among 6th graders. With your help, I can provide each student with a novel to study during our school year.

My Project

I began teaching 6th grade this year after devoting 15 years of my career in 4th grade. With this exciting transition, I have realized that my personal library needs some updating in order to keep up with the older, more mature students in my class. In an attempt to build my classroom library, I have discovered that the book Crossover would be a unique addition. The author utilizes many forms of poetry throughout the book, changing from chapter to chapter. I believe that my students lack materials that emphasize creative writing, particularly poetry. This novel encourages students to read between the lines and think deeper about what the author's purpose is. Thank you for your consideration!
