My students need rehearsal supplies like highlighters, pencils, name badges, clipboards, a group t-shirt, and reliable, travel-worthy equipment so we can share our music with our community!
The choristers of the Cougar Choir, or C3, are some of the most unabashed story tellers you may ever meet: combining child-like exuberance with mature musical sensitivity, the C3 singers truly embody the music they perform. These passionate musicians represent an eclectic mixture of socioeconomic backgrounds, lived experiences, musical tastes and pizza preferences, all of which harmonize to create a remarkably joyous story-telling experience. Despite this considerable gift of musicianship, many of the C3 singers often shy away when presented with performance opportunities; weekly rehearsals are effervescent and boisterous but these singers remain modest and humble at their core.
Although many of the C3 singers are reluctant to share their talents, they are talents worth sharing.
These students have great potential to positively influence their peers and their community, and they deserve the opportunity and the platform to do so in a professional way. Spreading happiness is what these children do naturally; catalyzing their ability to do so is why C3 exists.
My Project
As the members of C3 will tell you, making great music is SUPER fun... but it isn't always easy! During our weekly rehearsals each student works to memorize every word and every note to every song in our repertoire, and we do all of this either by heading onto the floor to write on loose papers or by crowding around a projector screen to read as a group, often leading to student frustration, lost rehearsal time, and overall lack of confidence in performance abilities.
The music our choir makes is joyous and vibrant, but with your help we could make much more music and share it with many more people.
With just a few essential, reusable items our weekly rehearsals could be optimized, enabling us to learn more music at a faster and more reliable pace: instead of writing on carpet our students could write on clipboards; instead of holding loose (and crumpled) papers on stage our students could use uniform binders; instead of creatively "storing" our music in various parts of the music classroom we could dedicate an organized space to the choir.
Many of these simple, yet impactful, items, like highlighters and pencils for marking music, give the C3 musicians the opportunity to prepare their music in rehearsal like professionals; while some of the other items, like student-designed choir t-shirts, name tags, a rolling cart for transporting music binders to and from concerts, and granola bars for these trips, afford them the chance to present themselves as professionally as they prepare.
The C3 musicians have stories and passions worth sharing, and with your help these students can have the chance to do so in a way they can be incredibly proud of.
