The Coolest Physics Classroom Ever

Help me give my students a warm environment that stimulates scientific thought by adding green, tinted supply caddies for each table, Newton's cradle, 2 lava lamps, and light that projects galactic scenes for the classroom.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach high school physics and mathematics to a very diverse group of students. They elicit within me a range of feelings, but most importantly they motivate me to wake up in the morning and do the best job I can do for them. They are considerate, yet due to their youth, they are quick to judge and I find myself trying to make the best impression on them as possible. I know what I do and say makes a huge difference in the motivation they have in class.

Their malleability, their potential to learn and change, their energy, and the beauty of their youth charges in me passion to make a positive impact on their lives.

My Project

Currently, my classroom is grey, black, and white. I would like to warm up the classroom with some green-tinted supply caddies on each table. I would like to add some more color to it with two lava lamps to start, and a night light that projects a partial scene of the galaxy.

The lava lamps and night light could prompt a discussion regarding viscosity, color, and electromagnetic waves, as well.

We can also discuss the properties of light including reflection, refraction, and diffusion. The Newton's Cradle will add a scientific vibe to the classroom and it will be a good demonstration for explaining conservation of momentum, energy, and waves.
