This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
There are many things in this world that we keep in our possession, even if it's tattered and broken! The band students at Maury High School work hard despite the limitations of their instruments. They work to create professional level sounds, and take care of the things that are falling apart.
The band program is filled with curious, enthusiastic and hard-working students who genuinely care about the sound that is produced.
They are fearless when it comes to solving a problem, and take any task and work hard to accomplish what is put in front of them.
My classroom is about building skills to get results from the performer and individual. The work we do in this classroom is building relationships, skills, and community. We celebrate our public performances and classroom daily achievements.
My Project
Everyone has the dream of playing the drums at least once in our lives! Many band pieces require a set of concert toms to add to the performance. We currently play on a set of broken rotary toms, drum set parts and whatever we can find that creates that sound needed.
By funding a set of concert toms, it will give my band a chance to sound like a true high school band.
The percussion section will have the appropriate number of instruments to keep each student busy while playing on the proper equipment. This will enhance the environment not only in the classroom but on the concert stage as well.
