My students need flexible seating options in my classroom. The pillows and soft seats will provide seating options during lesson time and collaborative group work.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work at a Title I school. Over 85% of the students receive free or reduced lunches. I teach 4th and 5th grade gifted language arts. My students are high energy, just like most 4th and 5th grade students! These students are motivated to learn despite some of the struggles that go on outside of school for them. I want to offer my students an amazing classroom that is inviting and full of choices! My goal is to create a home away from home that promotes a place of learning, community and love.
My Project
I am looking to create a positive classroom environment by incorporating a comfortable and familiar atmosphere that is conducive to learning. I have already begun implementing some items on my own, out of my own pocket and with the help of my principal, yet the expenses are growing too large to complete the project on my own.
Flexible and comfortable seating provides a clutter free space that motivates and inspires students to want to be in school, and also be productive while they are here.
When students are in a comfortable environment, their nervous system relaxes and allows them to reach their greater potential for learning.
The giant pillows will provide seating on the carpet for whole group and collaborative learning. The wobble stools will be used at tables and desks to offer options of comfortable seating that provides movement for my active students. The soft cushions are portable and can be used with cubes, stools, chairs or alone while sitting on the floor! The floor chairs will be used as another option for the students during small group or whole group lesson to provide a level of comfort similar to Home.
