Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from an urban area with diverse backgrounds, so they are facing serious life issues, such as being homeless. This can be difficult for anyone, so it is highly important that they are afforded a classroom environment that promotes their learning and well being first and foremost.

They are enthusiastic, ambitious, and motivated learners.

I wish for each one of my students to have the opportunities that they so rightfully deserve in an environment that provides ample and worthwhile learning experiences.

My Project

I want the best for the students in my school community. There are families that are homeless for one reason or another, and it is imperative that teachers like myself take the steps to help those students and their families. Many students come to school hungry, and I want to make sure that I have the necessary food for them to have to munch on and drink throughout the day, such as juice, cereal, macaroni and cheese, fruit snacks, pretzels, and granola bars. It's common at my school for children to arrive late and hungry, so it is important that I am able to provide them with food during class, as well as for them to take home. The food and juice will be organized in storage bins for organization and easy access for all. The ziploc bags will be used to store the food and drinks for children to take home to share with their families. Children will not be able to do well academically if they are hungry, so I know one of my roles, as a teacher, is to make sure that this is rectified.

The school is not only a place to learn, but a unified community where the children's personal growth is key.

I requested LEGO bricks for when the children need some space to build and create in a cozy area in the classroom because children need the time to let their imaginations grow with no judgment and to de-stress. The coloring books will be given to the kids to take home, so that they can color away. There are many families in the school community that don't have the means to buy LEGO bricks, coloring books, and sustenance because of personal circumstances. The "Comfort Classroom" is the key.
