My Students
There are days when I am walking through the halls of my high school that I feel like I am in the old popular television series, Fame. I recall the talented, artistic students driven towards success by way of their talents of dancing, singing, and acting.
My students are some of the most naturally talented and resilient young people that I have ever met.
At any given time I can peek in the dance studio and see the class moving gracefully together across the dance floor. I stroll through the art gallery and see some of the most amazing art displayed. Or, I hear the melodic voices of singing from the chorus room or in the hallway and hear any genre of music being composed...all by gifted, talented high school students; who, despite the challenges that they face, look forward to attending school in hopes of inching closer to their goal of graduating high school.
My Project
I believe that all students desire to have a good day once they leave their homes and enter their school buildings. Many times, however, life happens for students just as it does for adults, and their day does not pan out to be what they'd hope for. The materials that will be provided in the Comfort corner will not only aid in de-escalating students, but more importantly, they will provide them with the comfort that they will need to carry on with their day.
During the time that the students will spend in the Comfort Corner, it is the hope that they will not only calm down and be comforted by the comfortable seating, comforting sounds, and stress balls, but they will also reflect and take away strategies that will promote positive thinking and positive behavior through the positive messaging that will surround them.
