Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are energetic kindergartners, who are full of life. They are sweet, smart, and incredibly ready to learn! They are like little sponges, coming in each day, ready to grow and understand even more about their world! My students are hard workers, who love the arts. I want to inspire them to be more creative and to take more risks. I want them to dream big and know that hard work will help them succeed in everything they do!
My Project
My students would love crayons and construction paper that represent their skin colors so their pictures and artwork really look like them! Students often draw pictures about themselves and we would love to use art materials that look like them.
My students spend lots of their writing time drawing and writing about their families.
I spend time teaching my students to draw realistic people and settings so their lives are represented by art. Unfortunately with a diverse group of learners, the drawing materials don't always represent them. In a standard box of crayons, the students have white, black, or brown to choose from. There is nothing in between to show how unique everyone is. They would be so excited to be able to share their work with their school community that represents how they really look and feel.
