Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach second grade to a group of the sweetest, most caring, smartest, and loving children. Our elementary school is a public school in Texas. We have a diverse community with a wide range of families. We have students who were born in the neighborhood and many students who have traveled a long way internationally to be here. The students are consistently learning from each other.
I strive to create a structured environment where every student can excel.
When my students walk through the door, each and every one of them is met with love and consistency. Here, they believe they can and will succeed.
My Project
The Color Monster is an awesome book about understanding your emotions through colors. When you can bring self-awareness and identify your emotions it helps students better learn to cope with them. I would like to add this book to our classroom library to help students with academic and socio-emotional learning. When students are better equipped to take care of their emotional needs this is more time for learning! Every minute counts!
Students love novel and colorful items in the classroom like bright and metallic cardstock and Post-its.
It's just plain fun. These will be a high motivator for students to take extra pride and care with their assignments. These items will add more creativity and color to our classroom. This would help with many subjects: poetry, science, financial literacy, social studies, etc. In our class, we talk about presenting information to whoever may be reading or seeing your work. The work can be taken home to connect and share information with families to increase parent engagement. Taking that extra time to add care to the details with a hint of color, special font or an interesting picture to highlight information, helps students put their best foot forward in all that they do.
This concept is setting the foundation for presentation skills later on in life and future careers. Putting care and attention to aesthetics and details can make any project shine. As the students prepare for jobs like graphic designers or needing to make a presentation for any sort of business meeting, I want them to be mindful of how they express information and themselves. Something as simple as colored pens and paper can provide that, especially at a young age.
