My Students
I teach a group of highly motivated and diverse learners at a Title I school. My class is an enrichment classroom with accelerated learning opportunities for my 18 high performing first graders. These students are talented readers and enjoy challenging and above grade level work. This year, these students will be learning first grade standards but will have many opportunities to interact with text and tasks that extend beyond first grade requirements.
When I raise the bar, my students always rise to the occasion.
My Project
It is very important to me to give my students opportunity to interact with technology and develop skills that they can use to be competitive in a vastly changing professional world. You may think these are lofty ambitions for first graders, but every journey begins with a single step. My students are curious, passionate, and I want nothing more than to give them the resources and guidance they need to begin that journey.
13 out of the 18 students in my room are girls, and I want to send them a clear message that science, math, and technology are not fields "just for boys." These resources will help students learn and practice coding in a fun and kid-friendly way.
It will hopefully spark an interest that they will continue to pursue throughout their educational careers. The protective accessories will also help to ensure that the iPad and Osmo resources will remain in great condition to inspire many of my future classes as well. Additionally, iPads are incredibly versatile so I will be able to download additional apps that reinforce skills like coding, creativity, and literacy!
