Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students have started their very own podcast called The Cliftomaniac Podcast. The project has sparked fascinating ideas among the students and we would like to continue our work. We started out using my own personal equipment from home but we would like to go BIG and build a studio!
Our elementary school is located in Denver, CO.
We have an amazing school community that continues to grow as our school will be expanding to an ECE-8 next year. The "Cliftomaniacs" are a group of 5th grade innovators who are out to change the world with their fantastic podcast. The mission of the podcast is to tell compelling stories of humanity that will inspire the listener. As sons and daughters of immigrants from Latin America, they have shared their own stories of immigration through interviews with their parents. Telling these stories has been a powerful motivator for students to work diligently in reaching their goals. They would like to tell even more stories of people from around the world to spread empathy and love to change the world.
My Project
My students will use the desktop computer to record and edit audio and video. We currently use my school laptop to record and occasionally I will bring in my desktop from home as the laptop isn't powerful enough to complete a project or do any video editing. The laptop is not always accessible for students and my desktop is showing some wear and tear. The desktop computer will be housed in the classroom and will always be available for student use. The computer must be fit for audio and video recording to run editing programs. We use Maschine and the Maschine Mikro controller to record out of an audio interface. We will use the microphones to record student conversations and interviews. As of now we record one student at a time but have another microphone will allow us to record in a more authentic way just like a professional podcast.
So far, the podcast has inspired my students in many ways.
They are learning that they matter and have the potential to impact the world through their voice. They have also grown to appreciate their own history and have honored their parents by sharing their stories that would not have been told otherwise. The project has brought our families together and created a classroom culture that is out of this world. With your donation they will continue to share awe inspiring stores.
