Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students have big dreams, but as a school we sometimes lack the means to turn these dreams into reality. They aspire to travel, go to college, and obtain stable careers that provide them with satisfaction as well as opportunities to help their families. My students live in a vibrant community that is rich in culture, despite lacking economic resources.
My students are diverse Latinx leaders, leading change in the school and community as they advocate for LGBT and immigrant rights.
I believe in my students, and am committed to providing them with the same resources that students at the most affluent schools receive.
My Project
I currently have one poster in my room of an animated film called "In a Heartbeat," that was about boy developing a crush on another boy. This poster means a lot to my LGBTQ+ youth, who are currently working to develop a positive self-image and identity.
I would like to create a larger section of my classroom that speaks to LGBTQ+ students, with relevant books, inspiring posters that say "Be Yourself," and "You are Stronger than you Think," and pride flags, stickers, and pins that they can freely take to display their pride as a member or ally of the LGBTQ+ community.
