My Students

Our middle school is in a unique location. It is situated towards the edge of a middle class neighborhood of our suburb.

In the past few years however, the diversity of our students' social economic background is changing as we continue to expand outwards.

Regardless of background, as we grow the needs of our students have become more diverse as well. We find ourselves needing to use a variety of techniques and tools to ensure that no child is left out.

My Project

General Grant (portrayed by E. Headington) and his wife bring with the Civil War to life for our students. Working together and corresponding through the year, they help us bring a variety of re-enactors to our campus so the students can get a first hand look at what life was like during the Civil War.

We are currently in planning of our 4th Civil War Day at our school.

Last year we were able to include in addition to the Grants; an Artilleryman and a cannon, a Union and Confederate infantry officer, a Civil War musician and Mother Bickerdyke and her hospital tools.
