Our classroom is overflowing with intelligent, respectful, and caring students. As a teacher, I desire to foster learning. Tailoring our classroom-learning environment to accommodate all students’ needs will help with engagement.

My Project
Redesigning the structure of the classroom and implementing flexible seating encourages students and I to shift our mindset about the classroom-teaching environment. The classroom-teaching environment will transform from assigned seating into a classroom environment that is student-centered. The theory of multiply intelligence refers to every student learns differently. As their teacher, I want to empower each student to choose which seat in our classroom best meets their learning styles. Student-centered flexible seating classroom encourages; multiply intelligence, self-empowerment, engagement, critical thinkers, problem solvers, communicators, and motivation to learn. Students now have a variety of seating options throughout the day. The students do not have to endure sitting on a chair at a desk while they learn. Desks are still an option for those who prefer them, but they are unassigned. Our seating options include stools, carpets, bungee chairs, floor pillows, ball chairs, beanbags chair, and students may even work at tall standing desks. Students will have their own cubby to store their materials such as notebooks, binders, and pencil boxes.
