My students are a diverse group of young people. They come from the far corners of the world and from just around the corner. They reflect the all the beautiful shades of hair, skin and eye color. They represent all major religions, and no religion at all. They are the 'melting pot' of the United States-in miniature.
All of my students are excited, hopeful, eager-and underserved.
Through all my students' difference, they also share commonalities. Most come from poverty, many from single parent homes, they speak a language other than English at home or are classified as special education. Nearly all are considered 'not school ready' even before they enter into Kindergarten.
But the one similarity all of my students share...they come to school every day wanting to learn, willing to learn and waiting to learn.
My Project
The Cat in the Hat is a childhood classic; helping countless children learn to love reading. Now that same cat is back helping to engage young students on a variety of non-fiction topics.
Wouldn't you love to learn science with the Cat?
The series of non-fiction text I am requesting features the Cat in the Hat (along with his sidekicks thing one and thing two) teaching about various topics, from animal classification, to the human body to ecosystems.
These text will be just the hook needed to reel my students in before we start our units from the district mandated science curriculum.
Help my students learn a lot about that about that from the Cat in the Hat!
