Diversity is the first word I think of when I think of my students. They span different zip codes from across our city and won a lottery to get accepted into our charter school. Our school is dedicated to small class sizes and connecting students to their learning. All of our students have chosen to attend our charter school because they are excited about project-based learning and being a part of an accepting community. They want something different than a large, traditional school where students and teachers are overwhelmed. Our students know each other and create an open, supportive learning community.
My Project
My students want a project-based learning environment where they are given the opportunity to learn the subject matter in depth and hands-on. What if you were asked to build a boat that could hold both you and your partner made only of cardboard and packing tape? Archimedes knew this would be possible and all 50 of my students will face this challenge as we study the Physics of matter, density, mass, Archimedes principle, and center of gravity. Each concept adds insights needed to design a successful cardboard boat.
My students want an unforgettable learning experience that allows them to transform their learning into a unique boat design and an unforgettable adventure.
In order to complete this project, we need tape to make these cardboard boats a reality.
