Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
It is important to have materials to support learning in special education. My students have disabilities ranging from cognitive disabilities and Autism to Specific Learning Disabilities. I am a first-year teacher and I do not have the materials/equipment to help my students succeed in school. I would like to get materials to create a space for a calming corner.
Students in special education are in need of a space to take breaks and calm down when they become frustrated.
By having an area, my students will not have to leave the classroom and can still listen to important instruction.
My Project
I want to create a calming corner for my students when they need to take a break in the classroom. I want to teach them that they do not need to run out of the classroom when they get upset or frustrated with learning.
The coloring books will be used by students who love art to relax by coloring.
The fidget items will help my students with Autism with their sensory needs. I believe the light and sound machine will help the whole class take a break when needed. The rug will give the students a soft space if they need to on the floor instead of a chair. Of course, these items need to be stored when not in use. The small bookcase and fabric containers will allow students to get materials and clean up with ease.
