This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are enrolled in our school's Talented Arts Program. All of my students have shown that they excel in creating art and welcome the challenges of learning to use new materials and techniques.
To expand the students’ creative potential I am teaching them sculpture techniques of aluminum and bronze casting.
All of my students have experience creating sculptures using wire and other media such as clay and papier-mâché. This project will help my serious art students expand their portfolios.
My Project
The materials in this project will allow my students to safely create works of art in the mediums of bronze and aluminum. The small furnace is capable of melting these metals within a short amount of time which should allow us to achieve multiple pours during each class.
For my more advanced students that plan to pursue careers in the arts, this project will provide a unique opportunity to build their portfolios before applying to colleges and universities.
The gloves, aprons and face shields will help to ensure that the students will be working in an environment where safety is a top priority.
