My Students

Do you remember your first visit to a zoo? The sounds, the smells, the sights? I want my students to experience the wonders of the zoo and make memories to last a lifetime!

My students attend a title 1 school in an urban neighborhood.

The school has a very strong sense of school pride and we celebrate students every month at a community wide assembly. The students I teach are in grades K-2. They all have different interests that set them apart and make them special. My students are all new readers and get excited about new books.

My Project

My students will board buses from our town and make the trip to the Bronx Zoo in New York. Once there, they will explore the exhibits and go on the Gorilla Tour. The day will be coordinated with units of study from our classroom in literacy, geography, and science. For example, we will read books about animals we are going to see, learn about where different animals live, and begin to understand the science concepts which allow animals to thrive and adapt to their environments.

Demographics do not have to equal destiny.

Together, I know we can make a difference for kids who come from disadvantaged backgrounds. This field trip will mean the world to them as we let the zoo capture their hearts.
