Being a Professional School Counselor can be very rewarding. However, the most rewarding part is being able service the community while also changing lives through school initiatives. The population that I work with is diverse--I serve students who work full-time, may have children, are recovering from traumatic experiences or are trying to handle stressful situations each day. What I notice is no matter the experience that students have they remain positive and ready to learn. The students I work with are very enthusiastic and always ready to be involved in an initiative that improves the school on a holistic view or individuals on a personal level.
Students come from diverse cultures and life experiences. These experiences contribute to the way students navigate through their daily routines. Poetry and Creative writing can be used as a form of self-expression to allow students to explore different aspects of their characteristics, life, perspectives and personal growth. With student and facilitator collaboration in the Poetry/Creative Writing Club, students will use writing to explore their narratives, re-framing stories or inspire themselves to create different forms of writing that highlight their talent.
This project "The Bright Mic" will help fund the beginning stages of the creative writing club, so that we can make it an educational but also comfortable experience for students.

These will help set the stage in the room we are using when we have our own "Open Mic" each month when students will showcase the writing they have been working on. This will guide students to work on their performance and public speaking skills and also connect with their peers.
