Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in an elementary school in Utah. The students in my class always come to class eager to learn and teach. My students come from many different backgrounds. They have learned to work together and support each other in everything they do.

My students have embraced a Growth Mindset attitude and have achieved greatness.

There is no "I can't do this." It is "I can't do this yet." Due to this positive learning attitude, my students have been able to improve on each district test, students have advanced to the Regional Science Fair, and students have been recognized for the Youth Mayor Award. These are just a few of their accomplishments.

My Project

My project needs 30 copies of "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas".

In my class, we spend a lot of time on issues of respect, equality, and tolerance.

One vehicle we've used to address those themes and other issues relevant to our youth is "Esperaza Rising", and "Maniac Magee". I am excited to use The Boy in the Striped Pajamas" as a vehicle to talk about tolerance, racism, war, and violence. I feel confident that students will both relate and connect with the book since they face many of the challenges presented in the book: not being safe, being targets of racism, bullying, and discrimination.
