My ninth graders are so special to me. I love having the privilege to watch them grow from scared middle-schoolers to confident young adults. We learn and build together. We have cried and laughed together.
My students amaze me by always asking the big questions.
They want to know why society runs the way it does, where the line between right and wrong lies, and how they can change their piece of the world for the better. They are curious, intelligent, and absolutely hysterical. They are continuously engaged in class and have a desire to learn.
My Project
My goal, in my classroom, is to engage my students through reading texts that are relatable to them. I truly believe that contemporary literature that discusses contemporary issues is what will move them to love reading more. I want my students to see themselves in the characters, and I know a lot of my students would relate to the issues and characters in "The Hate U Give."
"The Hate U Give" is a book that I believe all young adults should read, and I would love the chance to read it along with my ninth graders.
The lasting effect of a good book is priceless. I want, more than anything, for my students to be able to leave ninth grade having read a book they enjoyed and the confidence to continue reading outside of class.
