Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students go to a school that is low-income/high-poverty. They eat breakfast, lunch, and often dinner at school. Although they love to read, write, and make art, they often lack the essential materials.
About 95% of the students in my class are English learners.
They love to read, write and create works of art, but they attend a school with very limited resources.
The students have often gotten to my class without ever having read a book, had their own notebook, or used paint and colors to create art.
My Project
Each of the Who Is?/Who Was? series books offers an interesting, illustrated, and engaging look into the lives of people that my students can relate to. Each book offers a chance to see the world through other peoples' lives so that students can learn empathy, find a connection to the past, and see themselves reaching the same heights as their heroes.
By reading these biographies, my students will be able to read in their Who Is?/Who Was?
book clubs, illustrate and write book reviews to present to the class, and find role models in the histories of these extraordinary peoples' lives.
