This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Model! Read! Model! Read! Model! My students need to have fluent reading modeled to them, as well as develop a love of reading.
Ninety nine percent of the students at my school are receiving free or reduced lunch.
They live in the inner city where crime and violence are a part of their daily lives. School is considered a safe place for them and they love the consistency they find there.
My Project
One of the greatest challenges my students face is achieving fluency in their reading. Without fluency, their ability to comprehend is greatly diminished. This lunchtime book club will help my students with their fluency because the more time they spend listening and practicing fluent reading, the better they will become. For this book club, we need Junie B. Jones books.
When you read, you lead!
Our goal is for our students to be able to graduate high school and go on to college. We want them to be successful and productive citizens in our community.
